Asafoetida

Arabic name: Al-Najdan gum, Aanjdan
Angozeh is a perennial plant of the Umbelliferae family with a height of two meters, which has thick and prominent roots and yellow flowers in the shape of an umbrella. Two types of gum are extracted from this plant. A type of tear or seed shape that comes out from the plant stem in the small amounts naturally. And the mass type that collected in different colors of yellow, red, brown and gray from the wounded parts of the plant. It is usually softer and more impure than its tear type. This plant contains the chemical compounds such as, azarzinotanol, ferulic acid, acetyl essential oil, oxinyl disulfide, vanillin and also contains carbohydrates, proteins and minerals such as calcium and phosphorus. With different application in pharmaceutical, health and cosmetic industries.

This plant grows in the warm arid and calcareous areas of Asia such as the arid deserts of Iran, the mountains of Afghanistan and India. In Iran, it often grows in Damghan, Baluchistan, Khorasan, Shahroud, Sabzevar, Zarrin Dasht, Kurdistan, Kerman, Kohgoliyeh, Boyerahmad and Yazd.
